NYFW Highlights & Standouts Day 4/5

Lots more appliqué, vintage America, even some 80s inspiration. Stripes hit the runway for Marc, while his MBMJ line offered plaid prints, layering and bold colours. Oscar de la Renta went through decades with each model; what started out in the 1980's with leather skirts and oversized blazers turned into majestic metallic & sequinned gowns. Narciso Rodriguez continues to impress his onlookers this season; showcasing classic shapes in raw silks, structured fabrics and long lines.

Alice & Olivia also stuck to the American 50s girl while Rodarte went modernist and even a little futuristic. Something very different to come out of this season, which was refreshing to say the least. Tory Burch offered Navajo inspired ensembles as well as fun tropical printed blouses & short combos. Vera Wang played it cool using darker tones throughout most of her show. I enjoyed the lace underlays in some of the dresses - thought that was a beautiful way to update a classic silhouette.

J Crew did a beautiful 'work-appropriate' collection including silk printed pants (LOVE) and textured raffia skirts. Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen were true to their 'Row' roots and kept it minimalistic, mostly colour free (with the exception of bold reds) and monochromatic. Sashin + Babi played on a similar field as Burch casting Navajo down the runway, along with equestrian details.
